What comes first?
A conversation and accurate measurements of the space. Before designing anything, I need to understand both the space and how you want to use it.
What makes a plan work?
Proportion, relationships and movement through the space. I look at the space as a whole rather than solving each room separately.
How do you find the right solution?
By exploring different possibilities before committing to one, guided by how you want to use the space.
How do you choose materials?
I look at how they work with the space, how they will age and whether they depend too much on a particular moment or trend.
How do you think about longevity?
I ask whether the space would still feel relevant if the furniture and objects were removed or replaced. The architecture should be able to stand on its own.
What if I don’t like something?
Sometimes the direction is clear from the beginning; other times it develops through conversation. Either way, the process leaves room for things to evolve.
Is your approach to architecture different from your approach to interiors?
No. The same questions at a different scale.
